The Sketchbook Diaries: Art from week of 22nd August 2022
This Week’s Drawings:
My Thoughts:
What I liked:
Lots of Peak District walks this summer have massively influenced my interest in drawing wildflowers and flowers in general. As usual, I try to capture what I see from either my own photos or from reference photos taken from Pinterest. I particularly liked the drawings of the poppies, as the crinkled appearance of the petals creates interest and a feeling of movement.
Challenges:
I would have liked to have created a greater feeling of depth in the central area of the poppy [as seen in the photo labelled “Blue Poppies (2)”]. Creating depth in a drawing is a skill I would very much like to build, but for the time being I have to rely on trying to draw what I see to the best of my ability. I intend to look for books and online courses with instruction in this area or perhaps a class that will teach many other skills besides creating depth.
The frustration with being a novice at drawing is definitely being unable to draw what you see with the medium you are using. I believe practise and good instruction from tutors will improve this.
Your Thoughts:
If you happen to stumble upon my blog and know a thing or two about drawing, I am more than happy to receive your critiques. I am also interested in any recommendations you may have about books or courses that will help to improve my drawing ability. Please leave a comment below or send me a personal message via the contacts page, if you feel you have any helpful information to share.
