Choosing the Right File Format for your Project

You are presented with different file format options after tapping the “Share” button. Depending on what you plan to do with your file, you should consider the pros and cons of each file format in order to get the best results for your purposes.

Procreate, PSD and TIFF File Formats

These file formats all support the “layering” feature of Procreate, which is a feature that allows you to build a number of layers in your artwork so that you can easily modify one factor of your work without interfering with the other elements.

Choose the Procreate file format if you intend to modify your artwork in the Procreate app at a later date. The Procreate file format also has the very cool feature of recording a time-lapse video of your artwork.

PNG and JPEG

PNG and JPEG are the file formats to choose if you want to use your artwork on a digital platform, such as a website or PowerPoint presentation. The main difference between these two formats is that PNG allows you to have a transparent background, while JPEG does not.

PDF

If you intend to print your artwork, choose the PDF file format.
